Avocado Minced Meat Dip with Garri Crisps
I am in love with Avocado pear.
If you follow this blog regularly you must have noticed that I have been trying out quite some new and interesting recipes with avocado pear in the past few weeks or so. Avocado pear is one of those foods that are so packed with nutritional goodness, you will not want to miss it. And because of this, these days I feel like I should include avocado in everything I eat including Eba or even pounded yam.
Avocado pear has many nutritional benefits that will help lower cholesterol and do your heart good (that’s why I am in love). It helps skin glow with the high levels of antioxidants, helps to slow down ageing process, good for the eyes, improves the quality of blood, strengthen those nails and prevents breakage, helps absorption of many other nutrients and, finally, it’s a nice substitute for mayonnaise in sandwiches. Now you see why I love avocado pears.
Seeing that some people do not like the subtle taste and mushy texture so I decided to bring some more taste, flavour and firmer texture to your Avocado meal.
You should have seen how fast the sandwiches I made with this dip disappeared from the dining table right after. I also paired it with Garri Crisp. The recipe of this crisp which I featured sometime ago was adjusted a bit by reducing the quantity of honey .
As I use the Garri crisp to scoop the dip onto the mouth my salivary gland quickly activates to welcome this explosion of flavours, textures and nutritional goodness.
This dish will work as an interesting Nigerian starter, it will also be hors d’oeuvres. I will definitely also serve it on my party buffet for those guests that maybe just want something light.
Recipe for Avocado Dip
Ingredients
2 halves Avocado pear
1 tablespoon diced red Bell Pepper
1/2 Lemon
1 cup Minced Meat
1 clove Garlic
1/2 teaspoon Dry Ginger
1/4 size small Onion
1/2 teaspoon fresh Rosemary
1/4teaspoon Dry Pepper
Beef seasoning to taste
Salt to taste
2 cooking spoons Olive oil
Method
- First of all, mix minced meat with some ginger powder, chopped onion, beef seasoning, crushed chopped garlic, dry pepper and rosemary. Then sprinkle in a little water, Knead with your hands or mix with a spoon to ensure all ingredients are well mixed. Set aside to marinade for about 30 minutes
- Heat olive oil and fry the minced meat. Use the spoon to separate the mince while frying to achieve smaller lumps of mince instead of big lumps. After about 5 minutes of frying add 2 cooking spoons water cover the meat, lower the heat and cook till water dries up. Set aside to cool.
- Cut the Avocado in halves. Remove the seed and the thin skin covering the buttery avocado flesh. Scoop out the flesh using a spoon into a bowl.
- Mash the Avocado, add a table spoon chopped onion, and sprinkle the lime into it to prevent the pear from darkening and also to bring some tanginess to the dip. You may then want to add a few chopped red bell pepper for color.
- Take out a few spoons of the minced meat and pour the rest in the mashed avocado and mix.
- Lastly, serve up the mix with few sprinkles of the minced meat on top. Drizzle a bit of olive oil on top of the dip.
