For the past 3 weeks Adewunmi has tried to track me down to join her in the studio on the program she anchors ..Young and Cerebral. My ,my, my, was this lady persistent :).
Preferring to do all the questioning in the studio to help bring on the spontaneity and natural flow through the program, Adewunmi made sure not to share her planned questions before hand. Unilag fm is a radio station that caters to the University of Lagos community and other parts of Lagos. It’s Saturday morning and I find myself heading out the door at 8 am, quite out of place for me, as I like to laze around the house a bit during the weekends. But for a young Nigerian I will do anything.
Arriving University of Lagos pretty early to avoid the Saturday traffic in this part of town, I sit in the car for about an hour, and used the opportunity to write one blog post, people watch, and re-live my uni days as I say students go back and forth. I wondered if they knew what the world out there held for them after Uni.
9.30 am, it was time to get into the studio. I headed to take the elevator to the 7th floor of the Senate building, but guess what? lift not working :(. Thank goodness for my consistent 3 days a week work out, it was not so bad climbing 7 flights of stairs knowing that it was good for my thighs.
Adewunmi was breezy and light-hearted in her presentation style. She named this program ‘ Nutrition 101’. We chatted about a variety of issues related to nutrition ranging from the challenges of eating faced by young working Nigerians; to tips on selecting fast foods; role of caterers in helping maintain a healthy society; my career as I transited from Nutrition/Dietetics to Marketing. As this is a live program I managed to take about 5 question on the program. I did not miss the opportunity to talk about 1qfoodplatter, *wink ,wink.
A rewarding Saturday in a radio station, spent helping Nigerians make healthy food choices, particularly young Nigerians.
