This was my first visit to Danforth Food Festival in Toronto ,Canada.
I had the good fortune to witness the annual Danforth food festival in Toronto Canada. I will spare nothing to go fishing for new food ideas to share with you guys. This 2013 festival saw over one million people visiting over a period of 3 days that the festival lasted.
As I was holidaying in this part of the world I headed out on the day two of the Food Festival to see things for my self. I walked through the crowd which was ‘ bumper to bumper’ as we say in Lagos. I felt for a moment that this was Oshodi, except that the deep husky voice of an area boy was missing:). Fuji music was also missing as with the shout of the bus conductor calling for passengers into his bus.
There was lots of music, many food stands selling( after all it was a food festival) playlet stands and exhibitors of food and services.
Some reggae , samba and country music was blaring from loud speakers scattered all around the arena. Yes I stopped at the reggae stand to enjoy some of those vintage Bob Marley tracks….’No woman , no cry’, ‘I shot the Sheriff’ .
I stopped by at quite a number of food stands to see what was on offer and what was new . The stand roasting quails ( little birds that nutritionist are all going ooh and aah about for its health benefit in terms of low fat content) caught my eyes and dare I say my nose. I stopped by and queue up on line to buy a piece of this well talked about bird but before I could have my turn of being served , the bird ran out. Disappointed I moved onto another food stand. Roasted corn stand was next, they had enough of this to feed a village. The experience was good and I will be sharing this with you guys soon how this corn is prepared. I also got me some chicken barbecue and a tiny piece of French bread.
I tried what looked like puff puff but the sugar was too much to tolerate .
Food generally was grilled ,simple and easy to eat on the go. Day well spent at Danforth food festival, headed home with Bob Marley songs still on my mind and the disappointment of missing the grilled quial. Watch out for the spicy roasted corn in cob.
